Milo’s Sandbox

When a student says

“I don’t know what to write.” · “I don’t know what else to add.” · “I’m done.”

Their teacher might

Ask a question, prompt a memory, or use a visual cue to help them keep thinking and writing.

Milo wonders

Milo knows pictures can help some students come up with ideas to write. Milo wants to add images as a support tool students can choose. The image support tool also includes questions a teacher might ask. But is a static picture enough, or does interacting with the picture help students stay engaged in thinking about what to write?

Try it

Imagine you’re in 5th grade. Your teacher gives you a writing prompt and you don’t know what to write.

  1. Click Blank page and write.
  2. Click Static picture and write.
  3. Click Interactive picture and write.

After each one, notice which experience helped you think of more to say or keep writing.
